Benefits of Honeycomb Shades

There are many different designs and varieties of shades in the market today, all of them having their own advantage. Some shades feature the ability to completely filter out all light trying to enter through the window, enabling complete privacy. Others are capable of blocking out more than the eye can see, screening out UV rays that could damage wood flooring and furniture. Then there are those that fit a certain style or theme of a room perfectly, with a luxurious or classical, or traditional appearance that will accentuate the room’s features. Then there is the cellular shade. Also known as honeycomb shades, this design has an advantage that puts it head and shoulders above the rest of the competition.

Does your house or work space get cold during the winter months, or unbearably hot during the summer. It may be because your windows are not properly insulated. Windows by far are the easiest way for heat to transfer from one side of the wall to the other. Whether this is heat leaving the space in the winter, or entering the home or office in the summer, the window is where the greatest loss is. The rest of the wall is insulated, why not have the window as well. With cellular shades, this is a simple matter. Their ingenious design is what keeps heat on one side of the glass.

Honeycomb shades feature a unique dual layered design that creates a series of hexagonal pockets that run down the shades. When the shades are opened to let the sun in, these pockets close up, taking up little space and allowing more light to shine through. When they are pulled down however, each cell has air trapped within, which creates a barrier that prevents heat from passing through one side to the other of your window. So not only will your home or office be a bit more cozy but the increase in energy efficiency will mean your wallet will feel cozy as well.

All of this is not to say that you can’t also have style while you have efficiency. With options for opacity and sheerness, you can choose the amount of light you want to allow filtered through the shades when closed, adding extra ambiance to the room. Along with the color and texture of the shades fabric, there are also options for the size of the cells as well, giving you freedom to mix and match looks and designs for added inspiration. Finally there are choices involving the orientation, both vertical and horizontal, as well as how the shades open, from the top or bottom.

Cellular shades don’t have the history of roman shades or plantation shutters, or the depth of patterns that can be displayed on roller shades. What they do have in spades is utility that doesn’t subtract from its clean, sharp appearance. Honeycomb shades do more for your wallet than other styles of window treatment, and will still look good and accentuate the features of any room or work space.
