When you first start crafting your room’s theme, you may think about all the ways that you can create color, light, and spectacle. From hanging pieces from the ceiling, to setting out strange little knick knacks that you have found over the years. Picking out from the hundreds of possibilities what features and accents you want is important to having the right atmosphere that you want from your space. What can go wrong though, is when you over do it. Adding too much can clutter the floor, the walls, everywhere, and at that point, poignant features of your space no longer have the attention that they so deserve. Even window treatments are immune to this effect, because while it might seem like a simple addition, there are a lot of colorful and complicated sets out there, when what you need is much more simple. That is why there is the golden rule, K.I.S.S.
Keep It Simple and Stunning, or K.I.S.S. is about how it is almost always better when less equals more. Having fewer features and accents just puts that much more emphasis on what you do have in the room. There are exceptions to this rule, of course, just as there are styles which turn the clutter of a home into cosy atmosphere and visual appeal, but on the whole, when you want to have a space that feels open, warm, and inviting, you don’t want to have a lot of clutter to get in the way. This goes for window treatments as well. Some of the most simplistic ones are also perfect for accentuating the view from your home, or creating degrees of separation around your room without being too jarring. Some of the more complex window treatments, like patterned drapes and stacked roman shades add a lot of texture to the room, as well as a lot of class, but even then, the more simplistic looking styles are not far behind in the categories of looks, with some even pulling out ahead of their compatriots. Roller shades might seem like straightforward window dressings, and it is for the most part, but the slight size, the light appearance, and the smooth visual appeal all make for excellent modern modesty. You can’t get much better than them when you are looking for something to break up the monotony.
Of course, there are more options, for all types of needs and themes. Blinds are a great way to add volume to the room without all the added fluff, and these tough window treatments will last you a long time with proper care and maintenance, allowing for a whole breadth of options to be opened up. On the other hand, natural shades are quite charming for all their pure and uncomplicated appearance, which is always an added bonus. They are quite sustainable as well.
You don’t need a fancy set of drapes or curtains to attract attention, and just as sometimes bigger is better, smaller doesn’t necessarily mean that it is worse. In fact, when it comes to window treatments, the more clean and natural or uncluttered their look, the more choices open up on how to use them to achieve the best possible visual appeal.
